Tooth Extraction

Our priority at Eagle Dental Texas is to help you maintain your natural teeth whenever possible. However, in certain cases, tooth extraction becomes necessary to protect your oral health and overall well-being.

Dr. Beena John, Dr. William Troy Rodriguez, and our caring dental team do everything to ensure your comfort. From personalized attention to state-of-the-art techniques and dental sedation, we ensure a comfortable, stress-free experience.

Why We Recommend Tooth Extraction

There are several reasons why our dentists might recommend tooth extraction, including:

  • Severe tooth decay
  • A tooth infection that we can’t treat with root canal therapy
  • Advanced gum disease that has loosened teeth
  • Impacted or problematic wisdom teeth
  • Overcrowding and making space for orthodontic treatment
  • Teeth that are fractured or damaged beyond repair

Types of Tooth Extractions: Simple and Surgical

Our Sugar Land, TX, dental practice offers simple and surgical extractions, depending on your unique needs. We perform a simple extraction to remove a tooth that’s fully visible above the gum line; surgical extractions are for teeth that are partially or fully impacted or require more complex procedures to remove.

We Perform Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Impacted or problematic wisdom teeth can cause various issues, from pain and infection to damage to adjacent teeth. We provide expert wisdom teeth extractions at our Sugar Land dental office to help you maintain optimal oral health and prevent complications.

The Tooth Extraction Process

We make every effort to ensure your comfort during tooth extraction. We use strong local anesthetics to numb the area, and if you need extra help feeling at ease, we offer oral conscious sedation. Our compassionate and experienced team is always on hand to address your concerns and provide the support you need for a positive experience.

Tooth Replacement Options to Restore Your Beautiful Smile

Replacing a missing tooth promptly after extraction is always best for your oral health, and our dentists will be happy to discuss tooth replacement options with you before or after your procedure. They can guide you to the best solution for your unique situation, including a dental implant, bridge, or full and partial dentures.

Post-Extraction Care: Supporting Your Recovery

Following your tooth extraction, our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions. It's essential to follow these instructions carefully to minimize the risk of complications and promote optimal healing.

  • Gently bite down on the gauze pad we provide for 30-45 minutes to reduce bleeding and allow a clot to form. Change the gauze as needed.
  • Don’t rinse, spit, or use a straw for 24 hours after the extraction. The suction can dislodge the blood clot, which can delay healing and lead to a complication called dry socket.
  • Take OTC pain relievers or prescribed medication as directed. Apply an ice pack for 10 minutes on, then 10 minutes off to reduce swelling.
  • After the first 24 hours, gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times daily. This helps keep the extraction site clean and promotes healing. Continue brushing and flossing but avoid the extraction site.
  • Eat soft foods like yogurt, applesauce, and mashed potatoes for the first few days. As the site heals, you can gradually start solid foods. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
